what we do
Six specialized services on one framework. Most clients start with one and scale to three as their roadmap evolves.
WHY ESSENCE
We learn what the business actually needs before we build it. That gives established teams their hours back, and stops new products being built twice.

01 / DEDICATION
Rails-first, always
One framework since 2014. Idiomatic conventions, predictable delivery, and modern tooling from the first commit.

02 / VELOCITY
Ship weekly, ship right
A live staging URL in week two and steady progress in weekly sprints no ambiguity about what moves next.

03 / SECURITY
Tested and secure by default
Reliable test coverage, dependency checks, and deployment discipline keep your product secure as it grows.

04 / RETENTION
We stay close after launch. Clients keep trusted engineers and a product partner who knows the details.

05 / OPEN SOURCE
Open source in our DNA
We contribute upstream fixes and build on the tools we maintain, so every improvement reaches your product.

06 / SENIOR ONLY
Senior-only engineering
No junior trainees on your invoice only seasoned engineers who can make clear technical decisions from day one.
How We Work
01
Discovery & scoping
A direct session with a technical architect. We map your domain models, integration points, and timelines before writing a single line of code.
02
Scope you sign off
Every milestone gets plain-language acceptance criteria that you approve before work starts. This is why our fixed scopes do not overrun and nothing gets rebuilt.
03
Weekly live builds
You see something running from early on. Usually a live link in week two, then regular demos. How often depends on the project, and we agree that with you at the start. Clean, tested code pushed continuously. You have full visibility into progress at all times.
04
Launch & long-term care
Kamal deployments, automated database backups, 24/7 monitoring, and post-launch maintenance with named engineers you already know.

The Stack We Actually Run
Rails 8 ships with Solid Queue, Solid Cache, and Kamal, allowing one well-tuned application server to accomplish what previously required four managed cloud services.
faqs
Everything you need to know before getting started with us. Below are out most common questions we get asked.
What does Essence Solusoft do?
Essence Solusoft is a Ruby on Rails development company founded in 2016 and based in Ahmedabad, India. Fifteen Rails engineers, plus operations and delivery staff, supply dedicated engineers to in-house teams, maintain and upgrade existing Rails applications, modernize legacy systems without a rewrite, build new Rails products, customize open source Rails platforms such as Discourse, Redmine, OpenProject and Spree, and add AI features to Rails applications. Clients are mainly in the US, UK, Europe and Australia, and stay an average of three to four years.
Can I hire dedicated Ruby on Rails developers from Essence Solusoft?
Yes. Dedicated Rails engineers are the most common way clients start. You tell us the skills and the number of seats, we send two or three profiles, you interview them yourself, and they join your repository and your standup in about two weeks. Engagements are monthly with thirty days notice and no exit fee. Every engineer is senior and a full-time employee, and architecture and DevOps support come with them.
Can you take over an existing Ruby on Rails application?
Yes. Every takeover starts with a paid code audit lasting three to five days, covering the Ruby and Rails versions in use, test coverage, known security advisories in the dependency tree, the ten slowest database queries and the files carrying the most risk. You get a written report with a prioritised plan, and the report is yours whether or not you continue with us.
Do I need to know Ruby on Rails to work with you?
No. About half of clients are non-technical founders and operators who describe the business problem while Essence Solusoft chooses the architecture, builds the software and maintains it. The other half are engineering teams who already run Rails and want extra senior hands. Both groups own their code and infrastructure from day one.
How do you keep fixed-price Rails projects from overrunning?
After the work is agreed, a paid Phase 0 produces a task list with written acceptance scenarios for every item. The client signs off on that list before any code is written, so what counts as finished is defined in advance. Anything beyond the agreed list is handled as a change request with its own estimate. Because scope is settled before development starts, there is nothing to rebuild later and no argument about what done means.
Can you modernize a legacy system without rewriting it?
Yes, using the strangler fig pattern. A routing layer sits in front of the existing system and each capability moves across one at a time while the old system keeps serving traffic. The legacy system does not have to be Ruby on Rails; it can be PHP, .NET or a Java monolith, with the new slices built in Rails behind the routing layer. Incremental programmes of this kind finish on budget far more often than big-bang rewrites.
Is Ruby on Rails still a good choice in 2026?
For products where the business logic is complicated and the team is small, yes. Rails 8 ships with Solid Queue, Solid Cache and Kamal, so a single application server handles work that previously required several managed services. Rails also has mature AI libraries, so retrieval, agents and model calls sit inside the same codebase as the domain logic rather than in a separate service.
Can you run AI models on our own servers instead of a cloud API?
Yes. We install small language models on infrastructure you already control, so prompts and business data never leave your network. This is usually driven by a compliance requirement rather than by cost. We work software only. You provide the server or cloud instance, and we handle model selection, the inference stack, the retrieval layer over your own documents, and the permission and audit logging around it. For narrow tasks such as classification, extraction, routing and summarization, a small model on hardware you already run performs as well as a large one, so most clients need no new hardware at all. We have this running in production today for customer categorization using Gemma.
Where are you located and which time zones do you cover?
We work from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, on IST. Engineers overlap at least four hours with UK and European mornings, and with US East Coast mornings. You get a named engineer in your own Slack or Teams, not a project manager relaying messages between you and a team you never meet.
